The firm was set up in 1977 by owners Sven Filskov, Peter Schümann and Hansine Johansen. The same three partners will be celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2002.

Sven Filskov, who began his career in forwarding in Denmark before moving to Norway, and Peter Schümann, who comes from Germany, felt that this combination would be an ideal basis for transit haulage between Germany and the rest of Scandinavia.

The name DNS, standing for Denmark-Norway-Sweden, was a natural choice.
